Coffee Cup Mosaic

Ritual is Its Own Sweetener by Candace Jedrowicz

Ritual is Its Own Sweetener by Candace Jedrowicz e1313418092944 Coffee Cup Mosaic

It’s no secret that Candace Jedrowicz is java-centric!  In fact, references to coffee pop up in most of her work.  It’s way more that just a love of coffee that motivates Candace to to make java art.  It’s all about friendship!

Yes, I LOVE coffee, but it’s the ritual of of sharing a cup of the liquid joy that holds a place in my heart.  It started years ago when I began meeting my best bud for coffee.  It became a weekly treat to spend the day with Lynn in the ceramic studio at Anne Arundel Community College.  Lynn was the studio tech then and Friday was open studio.  Ipso facto – Friday was Lynn day!

We relished our ritual of coffee time together.  A group of friends formed around that ritual and we became a force of creativity that thrives today.  We’ve scattered in many directions and that force is still creating, radiating out joyfully.

With 2,000 miles between us, I still have coffee with Lynn every morning.  My honey and I sit down for coffee early in morning, he with his laptop and I with mine.  He’s watching business news while I write my daily email to Lynn.  Of course, Honey and I have our own special times.  We go out or stay in for afternoon coffee and sit out back at dusk to share tea.  Each a ritual of sharing, friendship and love.

I started this mosaic at Wye River Designs (sister Candace’s fabulous shop of creativity and healing ).  Candace has amazing mosaics all over the shop!  Heidi, Tiffany and Candace created them all!  I chose the cup shape (of course!) and went to town.  I painted the background black and poured over all the wonderful and colorful tiles, carefully choosing mine.  I knew I wouldn’t have time to grout while I was there, so I brought it home to Utah.  I finally decided to “grout” with beads.  After placing the letter beads (that say “Ritual is its own sweetener”) I squished glue into all the spaces and pressed beads right into the glue.  I added 18 gauge wire “steam”.  It’s so me!

I’d love to hear about your rituals and what they mean to you.  Don’t forget to send photos, too!  candace@cool2craft.com

Rose Petal Salve by Candace Liccione

Rose Petal Salve is an excellent skin soother and is easy to create yourself. Use for chapped skin, chapped lips, blemishes, rough hands and elbows, diaper rash, lips and under eyes.  Featured on Inspired at Home TV – the LOVE Episode. Featured in the Cool2Craft Newsletter at FaveCrafts.com.

Watch how-to-video here!

Ingredients

3/4 cup almond oil

1/4 cup jojoba oil

1 pinch alkanet

1 cup dried rose petals

Rose essential oil

1/8 cup grated beeswax

Crockpot

Toothpick (for stirring)

Coffee filter

Strainer

Glass measuring cup

Small containers with lid

1. Pour almond and jojoba oil into crockpot. Plug in crockpot. Add alkanet and dried rose petals. Add several drops of essential oil. Let mixture cook for 3 hours.

2. Place strainer over measuring cup. Place coffee filter in strainer. Pour mixture into filter. Let set for 20 minutes while oil strains into measuring cup. (Be very careful with this step as the mixture will be very hot.) After 20 minutes, carefully grab edges of filter and gently press the remaining oil through filter. Discard filter and herbs.

3. Pour strained salve back into crockpot. Add beeswax. Stir.

4. Set containers on table. When beeswax is melted, pour mixture from crockpot back into measuring cup. Working quickly, because the beeswax will set quickly when removed from the heat, pour into containers and secure lids. Salve is ready for immediate use.
