Creativity and artistry aren’t words one would normally use to describe teaching kids to read.  Lorie of Reading Confetti raises the level of teaching reading to a fine art.  Lorie is a reading specialist turned stay-at-home-mom and when you see the fun projects she does with her kids, you’ll want to play along!

I invited Lorie to tell us about her creative play.  Here is her story:

“Hi there! My name is Lorie and I blog over at Reading Confetti. I’m the mom of two cute (and very busy) toddlers! I taught reading for 10 years and as a reading specialist, I have a passion for getting young minds primed for the exciting world of reading! Most of my posts focus on making reading fun by connecting books to crafts, activities, games, and snacks.
Here are just a few of the things we’ve been up to….

We made a quick and easy snack to go with one of our favorite “Wheels on the Bus” book:

We played with some homemade window clings made from dollar store craft foam sheets.  The shapes were inspired by a Halloween book, Go Away Big Green Monster:window+clings Cool2Craft Creative Play Contributor Lorie of Reading Confetti

For this movement activity, we were inspired by Dr. Seuss’ The Foot Book.  We traced our footprints onto paper and then used them to jump from one end of the room to the other:

My three year old came up with a great way to use leftover Christmas cardboard by mixing paint and creating a masterpiece:

And most recently, we created our own Touch and Learn dump truck inspired by one of our favorite truck and tractor books:

I hope you’ll stop by and visit us!”
Thank you so much for sharing your world with us, Lorie!  By the way, I LOVE your logo!
