December Creative Play Day 23: Winter Ice Barrette by Candace Jedrowicz

The Cool2Craft Creative Play theme for December is “Give Yourself a Gift.” You give to everyone else during the holidays and all year long. Time to give yourself a treat! Make something, go somewhere, do something that’s just for you and photograph it! Then share it with us – post it on the Cool2Craft Creative Play blog on the Hive. Anything goes! I’m going to run with this theme and craft every day in December. I’ll be posting tutorials and videos as well as making some kits available at the Marketplace. Join me on Cool2Craft for 31 days of blissful, healing, creative play and give yourself the gift of play, too! [Candace J.]

Did you ever stand in a store looking a something you knew you needed, or even just wanted and didn’t buy because you could make it at home?  Now that my hair is long again, I have  found myself  several times staring at lovely barrettes.  Well, I finally got to work.

On the 18th Day of December Creative play I made this Autumn Sun Stone Barrette. I love the layered rounded and angular shapes along with the glittery sun stone effect!
On the 20th day of December Creative Play I made a Chocolate Chip Cookie Barrette.  Let me just say YUM!
For this Winter Ice barrette you’ll need:

Any polymer clay – I used Fimo Effects Marble

Crafting Foil any color

Any kind of mark making tool – I used this curlyque fondant roller

A 1″ square cookie cutter

A pasta machine or rolling pin

A barrette blank

Roll the clay out to about 1/8″ thickness.

Burnish with Crafting Foil and press any pattern into the clay.

Cover the barrette with plain clay the same color, or any accent color.

Cut your squares out and play with the design until it’s just right.

Gently, but securely press the shapes to attach them.

Add small bits of clay in the spaces so the top shapes won’t sag.

Bake according to the directions.

After baking, you can put a layer of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic on the squares.  Since the sides drop down a bit, I propped up one end at a time to apply the Dimensional Magic.

The finished barrette is so much more icy looking than you can see in the photo!  The Fimo Effects Marble is slightly translucent and the crafting foil makes it sparkle!

Very nice project….love the foil and have to take a look at the dimentional magic I didn’t know about.

Thank you Janet! I wish the photo showed how amazing the Dimensional Magic looks! It’s very much like Glossy Accents, but the nozzle and flow work way better!
