Liam’s Dream Journal

 Liams Dream Journal

Liam is a 13 year old guy who loves making things! He liked the idea of hand making a journal and here’s what he did:

I just got a cardboard box and cut out a size I wanted. I did the same size as yours so I didn’t have to cut. I put it in 5 signatures , and put it together with pipe cleaner. I also put that front bit on that has my initials, with stretchy string. It was challenging!!

Great job, Liam!  You can’t see me, but I’m giving you a standing ovation!

Monster Football 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz

Here’s a Halloween project for the kids – A paper football built around a set of vampire teeth that they can paint and glue faces on and will hold up to rough play!  My oldest kidlet (my brother’s grandkids) is 11 and the youngest is 6.  We recently started having one party a month where one kidlet gets to pick the theme, help with the invitations, plan the meal and come up with a craft.  We drew names to see who got which month.

Stevie had the month of September.  He couldn’t decide between a football theme or a monster theme, hence the monster football.  My daughter and I put the balls together in about an hour and the only thing I had to buy was the teeth, so this is a pretty economical project.

Materials:

Plastic vampire teeth – the cheap kind with upper and lower teeth connected
Hot glue
Felt in various colors
Lots of cheap masking tape – painter’s tape won’t stick when you start painting
Recycled paper
Scissors

Monster Football 1 300x187 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz So, here is my solution to the monster football theme.I started with teeth and red felt.

I traced around the teeth on the felt leaving 1 1/2″ on both sides.  The side pieces are 1″ and you can see I’ve marked the center for cutting.

Glue the upper and lower curves of the felt to the inside of the teeth.

Cut the side pieces as marked.  Fold the pieces over the sides of the teeth and glue in place.

Monster Football 3 279x300 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz Cut a strip of felt to fit all the way around the outside of the teeth with the teeth partially closed.Glue in place.
Monster Football 4 300x287 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz You can see that the mouth is secured here and can’t open any more than this.
Monster Football 5 300x214 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz Begin building the paper football around the mouth, securing the first piece with glue.I used recycled packing paper, but anything will do.
Monster Football 6 277x300 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz Tape down every layer of bunched paper with tape (but not this blue tape as it’s designed to come off easily and you don’t want that for this project).Shape as you go.
Monster Football 7 300x199 31 Days of Halloween Day 2 Monster Football by Candace Jedrowicz This is as far as my daughter and I went.  The kids got to paint it before dinner, then design the lips, eyes and stripes.I did the gluing, because my new hot glue gun is way hot!

Sherrye Barrow’s contribution to the Cool2Craft Creative Play theme – Pink – is this lovely painted scrap wood piece called A Walk in the Garden with Pixies.

Here’s what Sherrye told me:

“My inspiration for “a walk in the garden with pixies”, was my mom. She and I used to walk in the gardens, in downtown, Denver, when I was about six or seven years old..My mom played this little game with me, she would pretend that there were pixies in the flowers. and point them out to me, and when I didn’t see them, she would laugh and say look, look, the pixie just flew away, or did you see the pixies? They are flying with the butterflies.Being so young. I really did think I saw them sometimes and I would go home and beg my mom to help me draw the pixies, as she was very good at drawing them.”

You can find Sherrye here: www.mykickincreations.com

Sherrye is my cousin and we are the same age.  My memories of her mom are about how beautiful she was.  Thanks so much for sharing, Cousin!  That age is a magical time!  I remember my mom singing “There are fairies in the bottom of my garden” and all of us giggling about it!

“My new found love is Artist Trading Cards creating, trading, and collecting them. I have my 15 year old son Nick making them too.

I start by recycling cracker boxes for the bases.

I love mixed media and collage style with dimension and lots of embellishments and the cards grow from there.

I just made my first set of chunky book pages they are 4 x 4 ”

I love them!  Thank you for sharing, Sherry!

sandwich Clay Baboons ~ For Self Loathing Press Three

[Candace's Blog]  I have to tell you about Stephanie at Clay Baboons!  She makes me laugh out loud when I’m so wound up that I’d rather not even smile!  She’s not just hilarious (I’ve devoted a Pinterest board to her) she speaks to my heart!

Stephanie’s post today is about making one of those obligatory phone calls to a government agency that’s understaffed, so you wait forever only to get cut off.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the employee’s fault that they’re swamped!  That being said, it’s made all the worse when you have phone phobias, which I do!

Heather VonHagen sent this photo of her recycled soda tab bracelet to Candace the Muse.  Candace is taking the month off, but that doesn’t mean you can’t earn CoolCash!  Email Candace any project at all in November and earn points toward handmade swag!

Heather told me that she’s thinking about trying acrylic paint on the tabs.  That sounds very cool!  She wove the tabs together with yarn and used safety pins for the closure, but she’s open to ideas for something better.

Martha Jenkins is a frequent Cool2Craft Creative Player.  In fact, this fabulous submission earns Martha a second package of handmade swag from the studio of Candace the Muse and Candace is as pleased as she can be!  It’s always exciting to see what Martha has been up to!

Victorian Romance R e1318081924314 Cool2Craft Creative Player and Two Time Handmade Swag Winner Martha Jenkins! I was thrilled to open this email from Martha!  Here’s what she told me:

“You’ve had me scrambling about the computer trying to find appropriate photos. My all time favorite project is also my most ambitious. I spent more than 2 yrs in the thinking process before I ever did anything tangible but I think the results are well worth it.

It began when I saw an Old World Father Christmas figure my friend had on display in her living room. (Picture open mouthed awe.) I immediately wanted one—forget that thing about coveting. I WANTED ONE! Did I mention that he’s 6′ tall?

Cranberry Spice Wood Song e1318081983475 Cool2Craft Creative Player and Two Time Handmade Swag Winner Martha Jenkins! Aside from not knowing where to find one, there was the price tag—her’s was originally about $3,000 but greatly reduced on clearance. I’ve since found a few in stores (Chicago, Tennessee, Virginia, Alaska) but the cheapest was $2,500. Still too much to justify.

After much mental trial & error, with my husband’s help, I finally realized my dream.

The Boss helped design & build the wooden frame. My figure is unique in that, unlike the others I’ve seen, he can be dismantled without tools & stored in 2 large plastic containers
…except for his walking staff.

santa R3 e1318082008838 Cool2Craft Creative Player and Two Time Handmade Swag Winner Martha Jenkins! After the SantaI got so caught up in them that I’ve made several using rich looking upholstery fabrics for the robes. His face is purchased papier’ mache & he has a real Santa beard. I also make most of the accessories.

Teddy bears, balls, stick horses, flower decorations, etc. figures reached fruition, I hit on the idea of using just the face with his beard & hat as a wall decoration & from there, I’ve
also made just the decorated hats that can be worn or displayed during the Holidays.

red BB e1318082045123 Cool2Craft Creative Player and Two Time Handmade Swag Winner Martha Jenkins! He’s definitely my favorite creation but I’m not certain if it’s “because of” or “in spite of” the difficulties I had with him.  Jenx

Alesia Fowler sent Candace the Muse this photo of an adorable altered fan blade for the October Creative Play Theme – My Favorite Project.  If you like recycle art, you’ll love this project!

Here’s what Alesia had to say:

“When our ceiling fan broke my grandson had a ball taking the fan blades off.  He is special needs so the repetition was good for him.   My dd needs money so she took the metal and I started to alter the blades.   I took left over paper scraps from my stash and made paper dolls etc. from the Cricut. This is one blade.   I think I am going to do all the blades in seasons.   Hugs Alesia”

Thanks so much Alesia!  What a fabulous idea!

[Candace's Blog]  The Cool2Craft Creative Play Theme for September is My Quilt.  This card represents my current “life” quilt.

For my September goofy video, I played a fortune teller.  I want the video to center around the cards because I ha so much fun creating them!  I hand drew the template, scanned it and filled each card with fun images.  This one as some altered photos of some of my work plus the logo that Tiffany made for me.  She’s so cool!

Thank you so much, Tiffany, for taking me along on this grand adventure!
